Multi-Sensory Guidance and Feedback for Simulation-Based Training in Robot Assisted Surgery: A Preliminary Comparison of Visual, Haptic, and Visuo-Haptic

چکیده
Nowadays, robot assisted surgery training relies more and on computer-based simulation. However, the application of such technologies is still limited to early stages practical training. To broaden usefulness simulators, multi-sensory feedback augmentation has been recently investigated. This study aims at combining initial predictive (guidance) subsequent error-based (feedback) in visual haptic domain. 32 participants performed 30 repetitions a virtual reality task resembling needle-driving by using surgeon console da Vinci Research Kit. These trainees were randomly equally divided into four groups: one group had no augmentation, while other groups underwent visual, visuo-haptic respectively. Results showed significant improvement, initially introduced guidance, completion capabilities all experimental against control. In terms accuracy, outperformed control end Specifically, guidance played role error reduction. Further investigations long term learning could better delineate optimal combination these sensory domains.

Methods for haptic feedback in teleoperated robot-assisted surgery
Teleoperated minimally invasive surgical robots can significantly enhance a surgeon's accuracy, dexterity and visualization. However, current commercially available systems do not include significant haptic (force and tactile) feedback to the operator. This paper describes experiments to characterize this problem, as well as several methods to provide haptic feedback in order to improve surgeon...
متن کاملCorrecting for Visuo-Haptic Biases in 3D Haptic Guidance
Visuo-haptic biases are observed when bringing your unseen hand to a visual target. The biases are different between, but consistent within participants. We investigated the usefulness of adjusting haptic guidance to these user-specific biases in aligning haptic and visual perception. By adjusting haptic guidance according to the biases, we aimed to reduce the conflict between the modalities. W...
متن کاملHaptic feedback in robot-assisted minimally invasive surgery.
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Robot-assisted minimally invasive surgery (RMIS) holds great promise for improving the accuracy and dexterity of a surgeon and minimizing trauma to the patient. However, widespread clinical success with RMIS has been marginal. It is hypothesized that the lack of haptic (force and tactile) feedback presented to the surgeon is a limiting factor. This review explains the technica...
متن کاملHaptic guidance with fuzzy control in simulation-based surgical training
This paper describes a haptic guidance system developed to assist in model-based training of minimally invasive, laparoscopic procedures. The key factor motivating the development of the device called CAST (ComputerAssisted Surgical Trainer) is the need to advance the stateof-the-art in teaching laparoscopy, and ultimately to improve surgical outcomes. In the paper, CAST’s exchangeable task sce...
متن کاملComparing Haptic and Visual Training Method of Learning Chinese Handwriting with a Haptic Guidance
In this paper a use of haptic and visual training for Chinese handwriting learning is investigated. Participants learned a given character under three training conditions (haptic, visual, haptic-visual) and were required to write the given character plus two characters with common stokes on a tablet before and after training for improvement comparison. Performance was measured in terms of mean ...
